When to See a Doctor for Ear Problems

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience sudden hearing loss, severe ear pain, discharge with blood or pus, or dizziness accompanied by ear symptoms. These could indicate serious conditions requiring prompt treatment.

Symptoms Requiring a Doctor’s Visit

Schedule an appointment with your doctor if you have ear pain lasting more than a few days, persistent ringing in your ears (tinnitus), a feeling of fullness or pressure in your ear, or recurring ear infections. Difficulty hearing, especially if it’s new or worsening, also warrants a visit. Children with ear infections should be seen by a doctor; they often need antibiotics.

If you experience any balance problems or notice fluid draining from your ear, contact your doctor. These can be signs of more serious issues needing diagnosis and treatment.
