Revatio, like other PDE5 inhibitors, can cause side effects. Common ones include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, and upset stomach. These usually are mild and temporary. However, more serious, though rare, side effects exist and warrant immediate medical attention.
Serious Side Effects
Seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden vision loss, hearing loss, or chest pain. These could indicate a serious problem. Prolonged erection (priapism) also requires prompt medical intervention. Rarely, Revatio may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, especially when combined with nitrates or certain other medications.
Precautions
Before starting Revatio, discuss your medical history with your doctor. This includes any heart conditions, liver or kidney problems, or blood cell disorders. Inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking, including herbal supplements. Revatio interacts with some medications. Alcohol consumption should be moderated while taking Revatio, as it can potentiate side effects. Avoid grapefruit juice, as it can increase Revatio’s concentration in your bloodstream. Regular blood pressure monitoring might be recommended, especially in individuals with underlying hypertension. Lastly, Revatio is not indicated for women or individuals under 18 years of age.
