Amoxicillin/clavulanate can cause diarrhea. Severe diarrhea may indicate a serious condition called *Clostridium difficile*-associated diarrhea (CDAD), so contact your doctor immediately if you experience it. This medication may also affect your gut bacteria, potentially leading to oral thrush (a fungal infection of the mouth). Maintain good oral hygiene.
Allergic Reactions
Skin rashes, hives, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue are possible signs of an allergic reaction. Stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms. Prior penicillin or cephalosporin allergy increases your risk of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin/clavulanate.
Other Potential Side Effects
You might experience nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset. These side effects are generally mild and may resolve on their own. However, if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Headaches, dizziness, and changes in taste are also possible. Rarely, amoxicillin/clavulanate can affect liver function. Your doctor may monitor your liver function if you are at increased risk or have pre-existing liver conditions. Inform your doctor of any existing health conditions before starting this medication.
