Dosage and Administration Instructions

Always follow your doctor’s prescription precisely. Improper use can reduce effectiveness.

How to Use Your Proventil HFA Inhaler:

Check the inhaler counter. If it shows zero, obtain a new inhaler. Remove the protective cap. Exhale completely. Hold the inhaler upright. Place the mouthpiece between your teeth, closing your lips tightly around it. Begin inhaling slowly and deeply. At the same time, press down on the inhaler to release one puff. Continue inhaling deeply for at least 3-5 seconds. Hold your breath for 10 seconds to allow the medication to reach your lungs. Slowly exhale. If your doctor prescribed more than one puff, wait about 1 minute between puffs, repeating steps 4-7. Replace the protective cap. Rinse your mouth with water after each use, this helps prevent a fungal infection.

Dosage Information:

Your doctor will determine the correct dosage based on your individual needs. Typical dosages range from 1-2 puffs, several times a day. Never exceed the prescribed dosage.

Important Considerations:

Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking. Some interactions are possible. If you experience increased wheezing, chest tightness or difficulty breathing after using the inhaler, contact your doctor immediately. Store your inhaler at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep the inhaler out of the reach of children. Regularly check your inhaler’s expiration date.
