Differin and Retinoid Use: Getting Started and Dosage

Begin with a pea-sized amount of Differin gel, applied to your entire face at night. This is a good starting point; you can adjust as needed. Apply after cleansing and completely drying your skin. Give your skin time to adjust; don’t apply it during the day initially. A common mistake is using too much too soon.

Managing Irritation

Expect some initial dryness, redness, or peeling. This is normal. Start with application every other night, then gradually increase to nightly use as tolerated. If irritation persists, reduce application frequency or use a moisturizer to soothe your skin. Listen to your skin’s response. A good moisturizer should be fragrance-free and non-comedogenic.

Sun Protection is Key

Retinoids increase sun sensitivity. Daily sunscreen use with an SPF of 30 or higher is mandatory. Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating. This prevents sun damage and enhances results.

Patience is Key

Results take time; you won’t see a dramatic change overnight. Consistent use is vital. Expect to see improvement in texture and tone after several weeks. Significant wrinkle reduction typically becomes noticeable over several months. Remain patient and continue consistent use.
