Common Canine Infections Treated with Amoxicillin

Amoxicillin effectively treats many common bacterial infections in dogs. Skin infections, like bacterial dermatitis, often respond well to this antibiotic. These infections present as redness, swelling, itching, and sometimes hair loss.

Amoxicillin is also frequently used to combat ear infections (otitis externa), characterized by redness, swelling, discharge, and head shaking. However, always ensure your vet identifies the infection’s cause before treatment.

Respiratory tract infections, such as kennel cough (caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica and other bacteria), may benefit from amoxicillin, especially in conjunction with other treatments. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, and nasal discharge.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are another common ailment where amoxicillin proves beneficial. Signs include frequent urination, painful urination, and sometimes blood in the urine. Early detection and treatment are key.

Remember: Amoxicillin is a prescription drug. Always consult your veterinarian for diagnosis and to determine the appropriate dosage and treatment duration for your dog. Never administer medication without professional guidance.
